Mahatma Junior College of education celebrated Pongal / Makar Sankranti with great enthusiasm and cultural spirit on 15th January 2026. The celebration aimed to acquaint student-teachers with India’s rich agrarian heritage and to promote respect for traditional festivals that signify gratitude towards nature.
The programme began with a brief introduction highlighting the significance of Pongal and Makar Sankranti as harvest festivals celebrated across different regions of India. Students actively participated by wearing traditional attire and decorating the campus with festive symbols representing prosperity and abundance.
Various cultural activities emphasizing values like thankfulness, unity, and harmony with nature were organised. The importance of seasonal festivals in developing social, emotional, and cultural values among school children was also discussed, keeping in mind the role of future teachers.
The celebration concluded on a joyful note, fostering a sense of cultural awareness, togetherness, and respect for Indian traditions among the student-teachers.
