“The Greatness of a Culture can be found in its Festivals”

Pongal or Makara Sankranti is a festival in the Hindu Calendar, in reference to the deity Surya (Sun) which is observed in January each year. It marks the first day of Sun’s transit into the Makara (Capricorn). It is celebrated across the country, with a distinct regional essence even though the forms are different but the purpose remains the same, marking the onset of the spring season.

Mahatma Junior College, celebrated Pongal on 13th January, 2023. Students were smartly dressed in colourful ethnic wear. As part of the celebration, “Chakara Pongal” was prepared in clay pots by the students and distributed to the Students, Teachers and Support Staff.
